What’s in a Number …………
“Everything that can be counted does not necessarily count; everything that counts cannot necessarily be counted.”
–Albert Einstein
You might call me a guru of numbers, a social media numerologist, a bean counter, or maybe accountant. I love numbers; some might think they are pretty boring; they might even make you snore. Numbers make it happen, especially in the Social Media World. It’s not all about how many numbers, but what the numbers mean to your client.
I have spent my career chasing numbers. So what’s in a number in the Social Media World? Twitter followers, Facebook fans, bloggers, LinkedIn connections, on and on. People might judge your success in social media by the numbers associated with these platforms. But this could possibly be misleading. The thing that numbers can’t measure is character. Numbers are one of many ways to gauge someone’s success in social media, but that’s not the number that counts. Numbers change, but character and reputation are really the bottom line.
Perhaps having the most numbers of Facebook friends, tweeters, etc., should not be the goal.
Here are some numbers that count:
1) exposure, 2) awareness, 3) consumer interest, 4) client success, 5) client retention. Connecting, building relationships, understanding the impact you make with your on-line presence.
There’s only one real number that’s important – the bottom line. So at the end of the day, make your number count!
