The Secret Hideaway

ModSquad

Technology today is amazing. We have an ability to receive and send information in a split second’s notice. Some companies, like Metaverse, have given us the ability to work remotely, at a home office. While this opens up a wide world of opportunities for some who have children, or other family responsibilities, for a guy like me who really doesn’t have any of those responsibilities, it gets a little lonely and sometimes gets me a little stir crazy.

I get the question from friends all the time, “Dude, you get to work from HOME, how in the world is it getting to you?”  Let me explain: I came from a corporate office environment, where I had forty or fifty people around me at all times. I had a lunch area where I could talk to people, laugh, and vent the day’s frustrations. I had a state of the art coffee machine that brewed coffee at all times of the day, a ping pong table and foosball table for a quick stress relieving match.  I even had two Nerf guns in my desk for those random shootouts that my co-workers would start.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE working at home, it’s a relaxing environment, I get to use the equipment that I trust and maintain, my commute is from the bed, to the shower, to the kitchen, to the home office. No more 7:30am traffic jams, no more worrying if I’m going to be late. But, it’s the same four walls, all day, and all night.  There are times I need to just get out of here.

This is what makes my job awesome. When the days get stressful, or when I can no longer take the four walls of my quiet office, I have the great opportunity to get out and go somewhere else. All I need is my notebook, an outlet, and an internet connection, and a place that is going to facilitate my needs.

Now, myself with how quiet it is around my home office, I need people. Just the sight and sounds of them gives me a more productive day. I have several restaurants that are more than willing to allow me to set up shop, have a good lunch and work for a few hours.  If for some reason my home office is loud, and I can’t stand it anymore, I have a library right down the street that offers wifi, tables, outlets, and a ton of resources that will allow me to do any sort of printing, faxing, or any other business needs I may have.

After only a few hours of being away, I can pack up, go back home and have a completely different day. My mindset is completely changed, I feel refreshed, and ready to go.  This is what helps me throughout my days, my little secret hideaways, that none of my friends or family can find me at, and is just a completely different environment. If you’re able to work remotely, or even if your employer allows you to get away for a little bit, do you have a secret hideaway that you can melt the stresses of the day away?
