Thank You for Making Extra Life 2022 The Best Yet!

ModSquad

Well folks, we did it.  We beat our goal!  We raised over $106,000 for Extra Life and placed 4th in fundraising out of 3,000+ teams globally at the end of game day.

The money raised supports the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It funds critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, and child life services.

And we couldn’t have done it with all the generous donations and support from all of you.

To all the people who donated their money, their crafts, and their time to make this possible, thank you.

This year we had two special guests who brought home the impact of these donations

Joseph, a doctor from UC Davis Hospital, joined us on the stream. He’s a geneticist who works with children born with rare genetic disorders. He explained how the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals not only enable him to work with the latest tools and information, but also funds research that could change the outcomes of these conditions in years to come.

Amy and Toni from Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida also joined us to explain how donations help to save lives and keep kids closer to home. Previously, certain pediatric conditions could only be treated miles away in Tampa. Because of funds from organizations like Extra Life, this scenario is a thing of the past. Golisano Children’s Hospital is now equipped to save lives locally, leading to better outcomes for kids and their families.

We played some games … for 25 straight hours

Ripped Pants at Work left us thankful to work from home. Pants? Optional.

We played some Multiversus and talked some smack.

And of course we had our annual retro game show: Match Game. (Don’t worry, it’s safe for work … barely.)

And Team ModSquad once again rose to the challenge(s)

Is it really Extra Life without a few challenges? This year was no exception to this rule, with not-so-tasty treats that were (literally) hard to swallow.

We could fill an entire blog with clips of Beanboozle-d Mods or spoonfuls of vegemite, but here are a few quick stand-out moments of glory.

Rochelle eating wasabi.

Rochelle eating Wasabi

Noe eating four worms and spicy cotton candy

Seth covering his face in tape

Brian sacrificing leg hair for the cause has become a tradition and this year is no different. Armed with wax and a microwave, he celebrated meeting his goal by freshening up on camera. And by that we mean he punished his leg-hairs. All without his censor-button!

Need more Brian suffering? How about when Brian and Ryan’s buddy K decided to do a joint donation challenge? Brian “enjoyed” some spicy cotton candy while K tried to swallow an entire raw egg.

It didn’t go well for either of them.

Brian isn’t the only one putting it all on the line, though! Seth found himself at the end of a razor following an unexpected challenge of shaving his beard.

That’s also what Josh was telling himself when he signed up to not only eat a single larva, but an entire handful of the creepy-crawlies.

Remember, it’s all for the kids!

Goodbyes

As we reached our 25th hour, many of the Mods that participated this year came back together to share what Extra Life means to them and the pride we feel. Leading the group was Amy, who left us a bit teary-eyed with her own recap of what we came together to accomplish.

Next year will be our 10th year supporting Extra Life. You know we’ll be planning something really special … just as soon as we recover from this year.

P.S. If you missed out on game day, we’re still accepting donations through Dec 31st
