School’s out for Summer

ModSquad

“Schools out for summer! School’s out forever!”  Thank goodness you’re wrong, Alice Cooper, because I am not quite ready for that!

schools outAs of this past Friday, I officially have a 1st and 4th grader in my household. WOW! The last day of school is always bittersweet for a work from home mom. We are so happy to see life slow down, and super excited for all the adventures that come along with the summer sun. Personally, my favorite part is that I don’t have to wake up extra early and get kids dressed for the next 3 months. That is fantastic until I remember all the lovely peace and quiet I will be missing out on while I am trying to work throughout the day. On the bright side, they are finally old enough to kick it outside this year, at least until it’s 101 degrees out and they begin to melt from the heat. At that point, I will be forced to let them in the house, and have to deal with their bickering and whining about being bored!

What’s my secret to get them to stay quiet long enough for me to work a shift and get my reports in?

Video games. Yep, I said it. I have no problem letting them play for a couple hours if it means nobody gets hurt and I get to stay sane. One of the perks of working for Metaverse Mod Squad is that I know some of the best and safest places for kids to play online. My youngest son loves to log in and wander around Animal Jam (http://www.animaljam.com/home), learning about all the different animals. My oldest son can spend hours playing all the different games on Cartoon Network (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/). When they were younger they really loved Nick Jr (http://www.nickjr.com/) and the Kids PBS (http://pbskids.org/) website. They have several educational games.

If you are in the same boat as me, and want a safe environment for your kids to play, I definitely suggest checking out the above links! From one work at home mom to another, stay cool, and remember it won’t be long until you have your peace and quiet back again!!
