Project Manager of the Quarter — February 2021

ModSquad

Our profiles of ModSquad’s Project Managers consistently remind us of the amazing wealth of talent we’re fortunate to have among us. Our PMs work hard to impress our clients with outstanding service and help Mods achieve greatness. What’s more, they do it all while ensuring that everything runs like clockwork. One such talent is our first featured PM of 2021, Chris Carpenter.

Prior to joining ModSquad, Chris had been working as a manager at major retail chains for 12 years — and this after managing a restaurant at the young age of 15! Chris wanted to use his customer service and other related skills in a different way. Equally important to Chris was being able to spend more time with his son. ModSquad presented the perfect opportunity on both fronts, and his ModSquad journey began as a Mod in 2017. A year later, he applied for his current Project Manager role.

Helping provide amazing customer experiences is in Chris’ blood. He manages projects that encompass a wide range of clients and services, but his many years of working with the public makes him a natural for customer support engagements. Like all great PMs, though, Chris understands that he’s serving two sets of customers — ModSquad’s clients and their patrons.

“It’s very appealing to me to take on a project and make sure it’s successful,” he says. “And to make sure the client is not only happy with ModSquad, but downright impressed. Building those client relationships and internal team relationships is a very important part of being successful. One of the biggest assets to a manager is having a team that is excited and willing to go that extra mile with them to accomplish goals.”

Ensuring project success is a group effort, as any good manager knows. And Chris is right there with the best of them when it comes to encouraging and supporting the Mods on his projects. He notes, “I think my proudest moments at ModSquad are when I see people I’ve helped step up and be successful. There’s nothing quite like the feeling you have when you help someone achieve their goals.”

While becoming an acclaimed Project Manager is certainly the mark of someone who’s attained their own goals, there’s even more ambition that propels Chris to excellence. “I want to make sure I’m always building and protecting client relationships by making sure that we’re on top of our game and providing the service our clients need to be successful. Beyond that, I always want to continue learning and to keep helping other managers. Their success is my success.”

For other Project Managers looking to emulate Chris’ trajectory, he offers these words of wisdom: “Never stop learning. I can assure you, you will never get to a point in your career that there isn’t something else for you to learn. As long as you move forward with that mindset, and you’re excited and willing to learn, the sky’s the limit!”

Chris loves to keep busy with his many off-hours pursuits. He’s a big fan of gaming and comics. He also lives a down-to-earth life alongside his fiancee and son — in the most literal sense. “We raise a large garden every year,” he says. “We have chickens, goats, rabbits, pigs, and ducks. I’m a bit of a farmer!”

But it’s Chris’ skill as a PM that draws praise from his ModSquad colleagues. Just check our what they have to say:

“Chris is one of the hardest working people I know. He can launch any project or resolve nearly any situation. He’s constantly requested by our Account Managers for their projects. On top of that, he’s a nice guy with a great attitude!”
— Jason F., Sr. Director of Client Services

“Chris is solid in everything we ask of a Project Manager. He’s proactive, on top of things, communicative, and strategic. He has a great touch with clients. His projects have a lot of moving parts, but that suits Chris well, given his skill set. He also enjoys a challenge. I can tell he likes to learn new things and push his skills forward.”
— Matt R., Account Manager

“Chris is always willing to help out. He’s responsive, thorough, and follows through on what he says he’ll do. I often ask him quick questions and he’s always willing to help and provide good insight. I always look forward to working with Chris.”
— Gina M., Director of Services & Support

“Chris constantly goes above and beyond. The clients love him, and he’ll always jump in to lend a hand when needed.”
— Halsey B., Account Manager

“Chris is a joy to work with. He has a great attitude and is beyond helpful to me and others on my projects.”
— Melody S., Account Manager
