Project Manager of the Quarter – August 2022

ModSquad

It’s fishing season, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. We’ve cast out our line and have reeled in our latest Project Manager of the Quarter, who also happens to be the best fisherman in our Derry-Londonderry Operations Center. Let’s get to know Callum B. and find out what makes him such a great catch as a Project Manager.

Callum got hooked on ModSquad as a Mod five years ago. Still in college at the time, he worked at the Derry office for his first project. Throughout his years at ModSquad, Callum has worked on a variety of client projects, including a photo-editing app and an online textbook publisher. He eventually applied to become a Project Manager on a customer service engagement, and the rest is history.

“I must admit, I thrive most in customer service,” says Callum. “As one who loves talking to people, a career in the CS industry is a no-brainer. I also have a very logical thought process, so customer service is the perfect blend of building human relationships and being part of a data and process-driven operation.”

It’s those interpersonal skills and his progression from a Mod to a Project Manager that help Callum do his job so well. He views the Mods working on his projects as indispensable to the ongoing success of any initiative. That’s why he devotes time to providing a thriving work environment for the Mods. He does this through regular QAs and one-on-ones — all designed to help his Mods shine.

Thanks to his Mod experience, Callum can easily understand and relate to the exact responsibilities of those working on his projects. He stresses the importance of recognizing each Mod’s ability and merit.

“It’s important to highlight and encourage every Mod, for both their own success and the success of the project,” Callum says. “In a fast-paced industry like ours, communication is key. It ensures successful service delivery for our clients and a healthy workplace culture. It also sets us above the competition.”

Of course, it’s not all work and no play for Callum. In his time off, he likes to relax by spending time with friends and family. When he’s looking to work out, you may find him in the boxing ring.

And, as mentioned, he’s been known to reel in a fish or two. But no whoppers yet. Remember, every “big fish” story starts out with a small catch. Over the last few years, Callum and his friends have cast enough lines to start competing in local fishing tournaments. One day soon, that big catch will come that will win him the grand prize.

Until then? Well, we’re fans of his — hook, line, and sinker!
