People of ModSquad – July 2022
Our hearty Mods are renowned for the expert support and engagement they provide. But when they themselves need internal support, ModSquad’s People Operations department is ready to lend a helping hand.
It takes someone with expert time management, exceptional communication skills, and a dedication to go above and step beyond to really shine in People Ops. Fortunately, our Human Resources Manager, Seamus O’Kane, possesses all of these skills and much, much more.
Born and based in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Seamus has a love for travel. One of his favorite weekend getaways is London, where he gets to enjoy another of his passions, theater and musicals. In fact, Seamus loves theater so much that he and his partner have been known to catch four shows in just two days. These quick jaunts serve as nice breaks from the recent whirlwind of selling his first home and purchasing a new one.
Seamus came to ModSquad after years of working in HR, when he was seeking a new challenge. “I wanted to spread my wings and experience something new. ModSquad offered an exciting, fun place to work, with an inclusive culture that I could not resist.”
Seamus leads our European Operations Center’s People Operations group. He’s organized a number of programs that help people across the company. He cites as a point of pride how his team has improved cross-departmental processes and operations.
Being a part of People Ops is about more than just developing communication or operational strategies, though. It’s also about creating and managing work culture. This is something that Seamus takes very seriously as he strives to create a great place to work for the Mods. “I want to challenge any preconceived ideas of what ‘Human Resources’ is and let people know that we’re here to help and assist people to do their jobs the best they can. It’s our job to put our people at the heart of everything we do. That’s how I navigate my role.” A role, by the way, that he refers to as “your friendly neighborhood HR Manager — emphasis on friendly.”
Friendliness and a willingness to help out is reflective of the entire company, says Seamus. Nowhere is this more apparent than when new Mods are onboarded. For newcomers, he advises, “It may seem daunting, but relax and know that we have your back every step of the way. We have amazing people who have an abundance of knowledge and experience, and they’re just itching to share that with anyone who’ll listen.”
That camaraderie is what sets ModSquad apart, Seamus notes. It also lets him know he’s at the right place. “It’s often said that the people are the heart of any business. That has never been as apparent as it is here at ModSquad. ModSquad doesn’t just promise a great work-life balance, it delivers it!”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
