My Virtual Baby Shower
Three years ago, almost exactly, I took a position at Metaverse Mod Squad. A company very unique from any other company I’ve been a part of. One huge difference is we are primarily a remote company. For the most part, my team and I work from our homes. The number one question I get from my friends and family is, “Don’t you ever get lonely or bored?” My answer to this is NEVER! I’m sure the main reason for this is because I work with awesome people and with technologies like Skype, Basecamp and Ning, I feel extremely connected to my colleagues.I wanted to share my virtual baby shower experience to demonstrate our company culture at Metaverse Mod Squad and how awesome (and SNEAKY) the people I work with are!
A couple of weeks ago, our social media department decided to have our weekly meeting using a video chat service that was a “potential client”. JP, our VP of Digital Engagement, also gave us a little homework in testing out the product (which I did!) for feedback. Before the call J.Lowe, a social media manager who just happens to have the same name as me, had to excuse herself. She had a bad cold and needed to go to the doctor. I felt horrible because she was leaving for NYC the next day for a big event with one of our clients. Our weekly department meeting started off normal. I actually started discussing the usability of the chat service when I received a call from J. Lowe. I was concerned wondering, how sick is she? And very nervous when she told me she was outside of my house!
I had no idea what was going on but explained to the team I would be right back. I opened my front door to find J.Lowe standing with a huge basket filled with baby gifts, balloons and cupcakes. I was totally surprised! We both walked back to my office and on my computer screen, I was surprised again to find a virtual party had begun. Not just the social media team, but a group of people that I work with daily. Everyone had matching balloons, streamers and cupcakes behind them in their rooms and offices.
Did I mention I work with awesome people!? We all sat around and ate cupcakes while I opened gifts including a ton of Metaverse-branded baby gear. My little girl will have Metaverse onesies, t-shirts, hats and bibs until she is about 3. It was a wonderful party. Please enjoy the following pictures and stay tuned for more pictures coming in November of a very branded baby!
Again, I would like to thank everyone at Metaverse for all the love and support they have given me during this special time.
Jennifer Lowe, VP of Digital Media
