Movies That Give Us All the Feels

The Champ is the first movie that I ever saw that made my dad cry. It’s a father-son story that’s forever imprinted on me.”
— Halsey B.

“My favorite film is P.S. I Love You. It’s endearing and fun while navigating a tragic story. It gives you a sense of hope as you root for the main character. My second favorite film is Fried Green Tomatoes. I remember watching it as a kid and relating to how strong-willed the character Idgie was. It stuck with me over the years. There were nuances I didn’t understand as a kid that gave me a renewed take on the characters when I later watched it as an adult.”
— Tera T.

Megamind is one of my favorite movies. The villain grows up in a bad environment but still wants people to like and respect him. Ultimately, all it takes is a single person to show him kindness and understanding for him to give up being the bad guy. I love it.”
— David H.

The Shawshank Redemption is an amazing movie. It’s just thrilling from start to end, a story that hits you right in the feels, where justice is served in the end.”
— Brian F.

Soundtracks That Are Music to Our Ears

“Obviously, Star Wars has a great score. However, Rogue One’s soundtrack is one of the best out of the Star Wars films. It’s so well done, interlacing both new and old themes, and it’s just so crisp and clear and very evocative. Then there’s the always-perfect Up and Inside Out soundtracks. If you want something to make you feel things wholeheartedly, those two soundtracks will make you cry at a stoplight in downtown Dallas.”
— Alaina D.

The Prince of Egypt soundtrack slaps. Also, the movie’s animation is beautiful and the voice acting is 10/10.”
— Aine O.

Timeless Classics

“The Star Wars trilogies, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, and Overboard are really hard to surpass. But I’m going to have to go with The Princess Bride. It has everything: ‘Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.’ It’s perfect.”
— Izzy N.

“My favorite film is Some Like It Hot. It’s a fabulous farcical comedy with powerhouse stars Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and, of course, Marilyn Monroe. This was a real cultural groundbreaker when it was released in 1959. The additional star of the show is San Diego’s beloved landmark Hotel del Coronado, standing in for the Florida beach hotel where the main action takes place. I need to also mention Lawrence of Arabia, Chinatown, and a handful of the Lupin III feature-length TV movies that have been made over the years, with Episode 0: The First Contact edging out the others in my heart.”
— Ellen B.

“Typically, once I know what’s going to happen in a movie, I don’t really watch it again. But I do have a top three that I watch over and over. The Little Rascals was a super fun movie. I also did Soap Box Derby races as a kid and to see it in a movie was great. The Green Mile, while very long, is a great film filled with drama and suspense. And to this day, Forrest Gump has some of the best movie quotes ever.”
— Samantha W.

Crowd Pleasers

“It’s really difficult for me to nail down a favorite. The Pitch Perfect movies are something I’ll always watch if I need something to just turn off my brain and chill to. I’m a big fan of the Fast and Furious and National Treasures movies. They’re not Oscar-worthy, but they’re fun films that are a good watch. If I had to pick something more serious, The Devil’s Advocate and The Book Thief are two amazing dramas. My absolute favorite is Baby Driver. It combines everything I like in a movie: great action, a little mystery, and a fun soundtrack.”
— Ashley M.

“I have to go with Dredd (2012). I totally understood the audience’s reservations after the 1995 Sylvester Stallone version (Judge Dredd), but this more recent one was a real treat! Never before had I seen a movie that had nearly the entire story contained within a single location. Karl Urban was such a believable Judge that it was super immersive. The helmet never came off, so the whole time I felt like I was watching Dredd, not Karl Urban as Dredd. Add to that Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey as the primary antagonist. She was incredible. Highly recommended!”
— Liam B.
