Get Your Game Face On: Extra Life 2021 is Coming
One of ModSquad’s favorite annual events is coming soon, and we hope you’ll be a part of it.
Extra Life is a 24-hour gaming marathon dedicated to changing kids’ health for the better by gathering donations and raising awareness for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the United States and Canada. Since 2008, gamers everywhere have come together every year to raise a total of $87 million for sick kids and their families. For the eighth year in a row, we’re excited to be part of this inspiring event, which kicks off on the morning of Saturday, November 6, 2021.
With 62 kids entering a children’s hospital every minute and medical centers everywhere stretched to the limit, it’s more important than ever before to step up and help make a difference. With Extra Life, we’re working to raise much-needed funds to care for sick children and to support the amazing work of the medical professionals who dedicate their careers to helping those kids. It’s a hugely important undertaking, but it couldn’t be easier to participate. Here’s how:
Are you a live streamer? Perfect! You’ll soon be able to sign up to take part in our Extra Life pre-stream events. ModSquad presents live stream events in the weeks leading up to the big day. It’s a way to raise awareness and money while bringing together gaming enthusiasts in a fun, eclectic series of games. If you have your own live stream, you can even sign up to be hosted by ModSquad’s official handle, which will bring in additional viewers and donations.
Enjoy gaming but don’t stream? You can support our live streamers by cheering them on and helping them ring the donation bell, whether in the pre-game events or during the big day. Our hearty players thrive on your support — especially during those early-morning hours when they’re relying on lots and lots of caffeine! There will also be plenty of fun challenges throughout the marathon, which typically involve the consuming of questionable foods and the shaving or coloring of players’ hair. You won’t want to miss those memorable moments (like these from 2020, 2019, and 2018).
Want to support in other ways? Even if you’re not a gamer and don’t know the difference between Minecraft and Minesweeper, there are plenty of ways for you to take part in fun events and help the cause. In years past we’ve had volunteers helping out behind the scenes and creating personal Extra Life fundraisers. We’ve also been stoked by the tremendous outpouring of support by the many talented, creative people who donated goods to ModSquad’s online auction, with all proceeds going to Extra Life. From original paintings to custom roasted coffee to handmade greeting cards, last year’s auction was a destination site all in itself!
Of course, you can always lend a hand by making a generous donation. This year, your contributions have a chance to do twice as much good, as ModSquad has committed to matching the total amount raised by Team ModSquad, up to $35,000.
ModSquad’s Extra Life efforts have grown over the years, from humble beginnings in our Operations Centers to a global, company-wide effort. Last year, Team ModSquad crushed it, raising over $63,000 and coming in as the fifteenth biggest fundraiser out of more than 5,000 global teams. We’ve set ourselves a pretty high bar, but we aim to beat it!
We hope you’ll join our efforts, not just on November 6, but in the days leading up to the big event. Keep an eye on this page for more details in the weeks ahead.
