Director Profile – Amanda Hill
It’s March and we’ve got green on our mind. Greenbacks in particular, as this Director Profile shines the spotlight on our Director of Payroll & Payments, Amanda Hill. Let’s head to Ohio and learn more about Amanda.
Tell us about yourself. What was your background before coming to ModSquad?
I have roughly over 20 years of payroll experience, including managing several teams along the way. I have worked on several different payroll platforms, and served as point of contact for several implementations and integrations.
Most of my knowledge comes from when I worked for a company owned by Unilever. I started out as their Credit Specialist, and then promoted to their Payroll Manager. They then merged with SC Johnson Wax, and I had to do implementations and integrations on several different platforms. The system went out one night in the middle of a payroll run. I stayed in the office until well past dark and hand cut over 600 checks so that the employees would get paid on time. I was recognized at the quarterly meeting for going above and beyond expectations.
How long have you been here? Have you always been in the same position?
I started with ModSquad in December 2021, which in my opinion is the best time, when everything is so chaotic with the holiday season. I literally rolled up my sleeves and said “okay, throw it at me!”. I thrive on improving processes and procedures, and understanding exactly what my team needs from me as a leader.
I started as a Sr. Manager of Payroll and Payments, and within eight months I was promoted to Director of Payroll and Payments. To say I was elated was an understatement. I pride myself on goals and achievements, and appreciated getting the role.”
What are your primary responsibilities here? What is an average day like for you?
I am responsible for all of the comings and goings of payroll and payments. From processing, to approvals, to investigations of non payments, I work on all of it. Also, I have a team of amazing people, and without them the payroll department would be obsolete. While they are getting everything prepared, I am on the back end making sure processes and procedures are flowing the way they need to.
I work on several projects with different departments such as Recruiting, People Operations, and Services. After all, it takes a village to make a global operation run smoothly.
What sets ModSquad apart, in your opinion?
ModSquad cares deeply about their employees. From the charitable gaming marathon, Extra Life, to the everyday camaraderie in different Slack channels, to the social media engagement to keep the world and Mods entertained and informed.
The fact ModSquad has been remote since 2007, is an exceptional characteristic of the company for me. ModSquad enables people to strike a work/life balance. ModSquad also keeps innovating, developing programs and platforms that benefit both our Mods and clients.
Do you have any favorite memories or stories about your time at ModSquad?
Just this past month I had an unexpected death in my family. The company came together as a whole (seriously, from People Operations to Finance to Services), everyone was just so supportive of my time and space. Gift cards, flowers, and the amount of messages and texts I received just made my heart so full with joy and praise for this company. I have NEVER worked for a company that would take the time to reach out when they didn’t have to. That meant so much to me and my family.
We aren’t all work and no play! What do you like to do on your time off?
I am all about family. I was born in Dalton, GA, but raised in Cincinnati, OH. I currently live in Hamilton, OH with my husband Rick of six years, my daughter who just turned 16 (watch the sidewalks people, she is driving a Challenger), two 9 year old step-kids (a boy and a girl who are twins), and a chiweenie named Sadie. We are Cincinnati Bengals fans of course, WHO DEY!
Our kids do sports, so weekends are often basketball games or football games. We love trying new recipes, and of course Taco Tuesdays in our house are always a hit! The newest interest we are diving into is getting our first smoker, and coming up with different recipes. I have a culinary arts degree, so I do love to cook!
My husband and I are big murder/mystery fans, so we binge watch a lot of our favorite shows, and of course stay up to date with Yellowstone and 1923. When I don’t have to worry about kids running around, and life itself, David Baldacci is one of my favorite authors to get caught up on.
And with that, we’ll wrap up this article and let Amanda get back to payroll, payments, and the many things she has going on. Want to work with awesome people like Amanda? Check out our Careers page.
