Alumni Spotlight: Tasia Karoutsos
Along with celebrating the many amazing people who make the magic happen here at ModSquad, we also like to reconnect with those who paved the way. In this installment of our Alumni Spotlight series, we head to the windy streets of Chicago to sit down with Tasia Karoutsos.
For those of us lucky enough to have worked with Tasia, we know her to be exceptionally kind, clever, and authentic — traits that made her an exceptional community manager and digital strategist during her years at ModSquad (2016-2018). Tasia knew ModSquad from her work as a social media analyst for a video game publisher; at the time, the Mods provided moderation services for the gaming company. In that role, Tasia learned Community Management 101, the delicate art of forum moderation, and how to speak to and engage users on social, giving her a perfect trifecta of skills to complement the services we offer here at ModSquad.
Tasia joined ModSquad during a time of transition while moving from Baltimore, Maryland, to Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was fulfilling her dream to help build a tiny house for a shaman who lived on the edge of town. ModSquad helped her put her social and community skills to work while enjoying the flexibility a remote working gig can provide. She also liked working surrounded by a menagerie of pets, including a cat and three dogs.
During her time with us, Tasia provided social strategy and community management support on behalf of a number of clients.
I planned and developed social content and general strategy for a dryer vent cleaning franchise, a promotional marketing firm, a Chicago-based esports team, and a handful of others. I also worked on influencer strategy for a beauty brand.
While here, Tasia found ways to make the impossible seem possible.
I learned the value of saying “Yes.” Sometimes it’s “Yes, but…” and other times it’s “Yes, and…” Understanding the goal, strategy, and resource commitment is pivotal, and opening the possibility with a “Yes” can help you surprise yourself.
She appreciates the skills she honed here at ModSquad, which she carried with her into the nonprofit space where she now works.
I am happily working for Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE), the leading private funder of epilepsy research in the U.S. Did you know one in 26 Americans will be impacted by epilepsy in their lifetime and that globally, currently 65 million people are affected?
I started at this organization as a content and social media specialist, and was promoted after a year to digital marketing manager. I currently craft all website, social, and email content, supporting key development, marketing, and research initiatives. I’m so grateful that I was able to leverage my social media and digital savvy to build my role and positively impact an organization which does such important work.
It’s always fun to hear about what our colleagues are up to, and we appreciate the opportunity to catch up with Tasia. Keep up the good work!
