Account Manager Spotlight — Mike Poe

It’s always a joy to watch our ModSquad coworkers enjoy real success in their careers. Take Mike Poe, for instance. He’s a great example of someone finding his groove and excelling in whatever position he’s in. Having started as a Mod more than a decade ago, Mike has held a number of positions at the company, most recently as a Project Manager. Now he’s a powerhouse Account Manager handling major projects for household-name clients.

Mike lives in the Sierra Mountains of California, where he and his wife enjoy being surrounded by nature, 10 minutes from the Yuba River, and an abundance of hiking options. His love of active pastimes mirrors his great energy here at ModSquad. We sat down with Mike to find out more about his background and what he considers the most rewarding aspects of his job.

Tell us about your background and what led you to ModSquad.

Before I joined ModSquad, I spent many years in the automotive industry, managing teams for various mechanical and cosmetic services and eventually opening my own business. Then I fell in love with my current wife through an online video game. I took a chance, put everything I owned in storage, and moved across the country to be with her. I saw a job posting for a role as a content moderator for ModSquad and applied. That was just over 11 years ago now. After working as a Mod, I applied for and was hired as an Assistant Project Manager, and then later as a Project Manager and an Account Manager.

What are you doing in your current role?

I’m primarily responsible for managing and maintaining great relationships with our clients. Over the past year, I’ve launched a fair number of projects to great success, primarily due to the fantastic group of people that I have the pleasure to work with. I’ve gained a lot of experience from challenges along the way that we were able to turn into successes. The most rewarding part of my current role is to collaborate with our managers and to fine-tune each part of a project until it’s running like a well-oiled machine.

What else have you been doing lately?

Learning! I’ve been taking every opportunity in my downtime to soak up as much knowledge as I can.

What sets ModSquad apart, in your opinion?

I’ve been a part of several project launches where we’ve been able to meet a client’s growth with adaptability on the fly, ensuring that however out of reach the volume may seem to be, we can meet it with high-quality support.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

It’s just my wife and me now, as our daughters have moved out and have their own lives in Southern California. We do our best to get outside every weekend for what we call “Adventure Sunday.” This generally involves driving down roads we probably shouldn’t in our Toyota Camry and sometimes getting lost along the way. I’ve also recently been trail biking whenever I have the chance; it’s a great opportunity to recenter. We’re itching to start traveling again, now that the world seems to be returning to some semblance of normalcy.

Do you have any great ModSquad stories that stand out in your memory?

I have quite a few, though it’s hard to drill down to just one. The best stories always involve the great people I get to work with on a daily basis — getting to experience them stepping up to a challenge, thinking outside of the box, and coming up with a solution that results in a satisfied client. As someone who has been in their position, I get to see myself in them, and I enjoy helping to cultivate their creativity and ambition.
