Account Manager Spotlight — Halsey Beldon

ModSquad

Throughout the year, we periodically sit down with one of our awesome Account Managers to learn a little more about them and their work. Our latest profile subject, Halsey Beldon, has quickly made his mark at ModSquad since joining the company in early 2020. In what was certainly a most eventful year, Halsey adeptly shepherded some very successful, high-profile project launches. Working with clients and inspiring project groups is nothing new to Halsey, who came to ModSquad with a unique background, which you’ll discover in our interview below.

Halsey lives in Virginia, a quick 15-minute ride from the ocean. While he still pines for his old mountainous stomping grounds of Vermont, Halsey has found his place at home with his family. Calling fatherhood “the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he appreciates the community in which he lives, and the opportunities the area affords his eight-year-old son. “He’s thriving with friends and hockey,” he reports. “We’re at the rink four or five times a week.” While he may be our featured Account Manager here at ModSquad, to Halsey, his most important title is Dad. “I’ve hit the stage in my life — dad jokes, napping in my chair — where all the ‘dad’ stereotypes hit close to home, which I love. I take pride in it.”

Tell us about your background and what led you to ModSquad.

I’ve been involved in marketing and events for more than 20 years. I started out as a snowboarder; my passion for that and other action sports allowed me to travel the globe extensively and got me into the live events world. That career gave me experience in marketing, sales, and event planning, and it was all driven by sports culture, technology, and innovation. I honed my skills while working for the Summer and Winter X Games, the East Coast Surfing Championship, Coachella, Nascar, Monster Jam, and many other events across the U.S. I facilitated trade shows, client events, and conventions, where I was responsible for the promotion and marketing of major global sponsors.

But the live event world had its drawbacks. It required me to be away from my family far too much. I was on the road well over 100 days a year and was on the verge of burnout. I love the client side of things, I love building and growing teams, and I love the community aspect of things. Fortunately, that’s when I learned about ModSquad. After my interviews here, I knew I had found my home. There’s an energy here, there’s empathy, there’s community. I was sold.

What are you doing in your current role?

Over the past year, I’ve launched a fair number of projects, which has been quite rewarding. I’ve gained a lot of experience and have worked with some stellar groups. The success of these engagements comes from the people on these projects, and they deserve all the credit. Their work has led to consistent growth on all of my projects. The biggest reward has been watching these project groups grow, both personally and professionally. It’s been fun.

Can you share with us a rewarding experience you’ve had here?

Serving the needs of the clients is pretty rewarding, but I think we all enjoy that to some extent — otherwise, why would be in this line of work? Feeling valued and knowing I have the support of a great group of colleagues is so rewarding to me. I love the people I work with on my projects. We all share in the wins. We all look out for each other; there’s a sense that we’re all in this together. That makes the work you put out so much better. The clients notice the chemistry you have and want to be part of it. They can see that the work being done is so much better because of it.

What sets ModSquad apart, in your opinion?

The ModSquad community, hands down. I was on call recently and the client asked me this exact question. I told her I could go on and on about things that she already knew, but that really, this is a company that fundamentally does good work. That’s largely because even though most of us work remotely, it feels like we’re all working together in a building. This is the least remote environment I’ve ever worked in. There is a true sense of community here. I’ve had virtual lunch with colleagues and receive friendly, helpful messages throughout the day. ModSquad folks care, they’re empathetic. The people here have formed a pretty amazing community that’s supportive and genuine.
